[edit] History
At a public meeting held in the evening of July 26, 1898, the building was purchased for $8000 by the School Commission to be used as the Yarmouth County Academy. [1]
On February 20, 1949 the academy was totally destroyed by fire. As the news spread, many students, new and old, gathered in horror to watch it burn to the ground. The fire lead way for a new Yarmouth High School which was built in 1951. [2]
YCMHS growth continued, the high school has since expanded to the second-floor of the PA. Best Centre, with five additional regular classrooms, a Learning Centre, and a second staff room.[3]
As of 2006 the high school has started the Pre-IB Programme and in 2007 the school will start the IB Programme for graduates of the class of 2009 if approved by IB supervisors.

[edit] Trivia
- YCHMS is the only high school in the town of Yarmouth.
- YCMHS is the main high school for students from Maple Grove Educational Centre and Yarmouth Junior High School to attend for grades 10 through 12.
- Drumlin Heights Consolidated School also holds high school students in Yarmouth County.
- The gym cannot hold the amount of people that are going to attend the graduation of the class of 2007, so for the first time, due to fire regulations, students at YCMHS will be graduating at the local rink, the Mariners Centre.
