Yarmouk University

Yarmouk University is a university in Jordan. It was established in 1976. Located in the northern town of Irbid, it has a student body of roughly of over 20,000.

The university has several international partnerships with overseas universities. Within the joint TEMPUS program, international students of Brandenburg Technical University conduct researches in Yarmouk University as exchange students. Yarmouk University was founded in 1976 by a Royal Decree and has since grown in size and stature to become one of the most prestigious universities not only in the country but the region as a whole. It is a foremost institution of higher learning, known for its innovative approach to academic management, human resource development and the pursuit of excellence in research and teaching in varied areas of the arts, humanities and social sciences.

YU is a government funded institution, but enjoys a considerable degree of autonomy. It is governed by a Board of Trustees to which members are appointed by a Royal Decree for specific terms. Our faculty members are experts in their fields, our staff is among the most dedicated, and our students are a colorful community not only from Jordan but the entire Arab region and various parts of the world. This gives YU its unique air of unity in diversity.

Yarmouk University also has a subsidiary Private Secondary School on its Campus. The School is called Yarmouk University Model School (YUMS), though the school enjoys a level of autonomy from the University, admissions are restricted to the Children of the University staff and various other academics. The School has a dress code and operate a level of education close to Grammar/Private Schools.
