Yariguies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yariguie was named for the indigenous tribe that once inhabited the mountainous area in Andean cloud forest. It has been said that they committed mass suicide instead of submitting to Spanish colonial rule.[1]

It is also the name for a newly discovered multi-colored bird. The fist-sized yellow and black Yariguies Brush-Finch, topped with an orange plume, was found by a Colombian-English ProAves Foundation team high atop the country's eastern Andean range in Santander province.[2]
