Yankee Air Museum

The Yankee Air Museum, presently housed in Hangar 2 on the southwest side of [hangar][Willow Run Airport]] in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a museum dedicated to preserving and displaying historic aircraft and other artifacts pertaining to aviation history. The Museum is also known as Yankee Air Force Inc. In the Museum's collection are several flyable aircraft. They include:

  • B-17G Yankee Lady
  • B-25D Yankee Warrior
  • C-47 Yankee Doodle Dandy
  • V-77 Stinson Reliant

On the night of October 9, 2004, the Yankee Air Museum's hangar on the northeast side of Willow Run (KYIP) burned down. The B-17, B-25 and C-47 were saved through heroic efforts by museum volunteers. The Stinson was at another hangar. Everything else inside the hangar was destroyed, including an OV-10a Bronco, Waco CG-4A Glider, F-105, L-39, artifacts, spare parts, tools, and the Museum's library. There are plans in place to rebuild. The first building will be dedicated April 16th 2007.

The Museum Airpark also contains a number of retired aircraft. These aircraft include: B-52D Stratofortress, UH-1P Huey, DC-6, F-84F, RF-84K, F-101B,T-33B, RB-57A, F-4C, and Armstrong-Whitworth – Argosy. An AT-11 is being restored to flyable status at a hangar near the airpark.
