  • Soldiers identified as being from the previous areas: Patriot (American Revolution) during the American Revolutionary War, Union (American Civil War) soldiers during the American Civil War, and United States soldiers in general during the wars of the 20th century. The term is often used in various parts of Latin America to refer to Americans.
• Swamp Yankee is a rural resident of Rhode Island or Connecticut with colonial ancestry.
