Yang Ge

Yang Ge (秧歌) is a style of celebration dance very popular in the countryside of Dongbei, China. Dancers typically use a red silk ribbon around the waist and swing the body to music. In different areas Yang Ge are done in different styles but all express happiness. The origins Yang Ge are unclear. According to some accounts by Tang Dynasty Chinese travelers, similar dances were seen in Balhae, an ancient nation in Manchuria.
