[edit] House System

The house system is a new concept that has started at Y.I.S in this year of 2006-2007. The school is divided into 4 houses, each with one color and a house name. The four different teams are: the Red Palominos, the Blue Mustangs, the Green Arabians and the Purple Pintos. All of these team names are a horse representing our mascot, the Stallion. This system is for kids from all grades to get to know each other and have fun.

During the course of this year, there have been many activities held for the house system. Once in a while, there would be many contests, games and challenges to gain house points. By doing this, the students get involved and work together with their team members. Some of the activities are: Tug-of-war, relay races, M&M eating contest, Leap Frog challenge, Spaghetti eating contest, poster making competitions and many more.

[edit] The Fine Arts

[edit] Visual Arts

Yanbu International School has a wide range of arts for the students to choose from. Every class in the school has art at one point or another throughout the year. Y.I.S has many resources for the students to express their feelings. To create a perfect atmosphere, the students can indulge themselves with pastels, different types of paints, crafting materials such as wires and clay. Most of the art materials are imported from the U.S to insure good quality materials. Y.I.S creates a great environment for artistic expression; all around the school, student’s work are posted around to give them a feeling of motivation.

  • Self portrait
  • Sculpture
  • Paper mache
  • Painting
  • Impressionism
  • Surrealism
  • Calligraphy
  • Ink printing
  • Abstract
  • Realism
  • Clay art

[edit] Who supports the arts at Y.I.S?

  • Y.I.S is supported by British Airways, I.S.G (International Schools Group) and especially the parents for Art competitions.

[edit] Music

Not only does Y.I.S have superb art curriculum but they are also superior in the music program! Y.I.S provides the students and music staff with a plethora of the required materials. The school unquestionably supports our atmosphere of music, by providing us with materials and numerous opportunities to showcase our musical talents. These opportunities most often include talent shows, parent nights and school assemblies. Of course the school is working on trying to provide the students with a more international view of music, by incorporating multi-lingual cultural songs and dances into the curriculum. The students are always motivated and excited to learn a new instrument or song to show there parents or fellow pupils! Of course, to teach the student of Y.I.S with an exceptional program of study, you need an exceptional person. In sum of that fact, all the music teacher(s) at Y.I.S must understand basic and somewhat advance music, they should be educated enough to be able to play multiple instruments (*note not at one time). There is also the fact that the instructor must be able to handle multiple grade levels between KG to grade 12. So as you can see students at Y.I.S could the future Van Gogh or another Hendrix.

[edit] Conclusion

Y.I.S. believes in a well rounded education. As you know the school has many different nationalities in the student body. With these different nationalities there is a great appreciation for all cultures. Y.I.S. has gone through some rough times, effecting the mainstream students. Moreover, the school has adapted to its shortcomings and is now back on track with a rising population of new students. We also believe greatly in the importance of partnership. The school has a Parent Advisory council and District Board of Trustees for parents to be involved in their children’s education. Thank you for visiting the Yanbu International School webpage.
