[edit] old school hip hop

"In modern usage, it is sometimes used to refer to the early 90's." Could you please cite an example of a maintstream medium using it this way? Thanks, --Urthogie 19:40, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Styles

They shouldn't be included right at the beginning, though there's nothing retricting their use after the initial name with "styled" in front of them. (Your version looked better, however.) Proteus (Talk) 17:07, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Monarchial styles

I do recall seeing that policy somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it only made sure that monarchial titles aren't included in the article title or before the name of the person in question at the start of the article. (By the way, I can no longer find the policy, would you mind pointing it out to me?)

The style is used on many articles about monarchs who have style boxes, most notably all of the Princes of Monaco (with the exception of the current reigning prince, Albert II). Take a look at Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, Louis II, Prince of Monaco, Albert I, Prince of Monaco, Charles III, Prince of Monaco, etc.

I'm not going to revert your changes yet; I'd rather sort this out first, so I'll wait for your response. ♠ SG →Talk 08:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music

Whats up? Hi, I'm trying to gather some more interest and support for the Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music. Please check out the topics and lets get our WikiProject to function better. Recently, I've taken an interest in the Wikipedia:WikiProject hip hop and I consider that WikiProject to be better developed. I am now writing to usernames on the hiphopWP who might be interested in helping with the punkmusicWP. Hopefully we can all work together to improve articles relating to punk as has been done well with hip hop. Finally, I am trying to gather support and opinions concerning the punk house article and specifically the Theta Beta Potata article which is currently in AfD (x2) at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Theta Beta Potata (second nomination). Please check it out and voice your opinion. Xsxex 09:21, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eton College

That was fast! Looks like you cut out the stuff I added on dress - I went there (1950-1955) and I assure you it is accurate (unless you know that it has changed since I attended Eton). Or was it the English that you object to?! Jpaulm 15:00, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Live and learn! I can still remember the feeling of relief that I didn't have to wear one - even if only until I got tall enough! Jpaulm 15:54, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

At least in college, we had two identical suits, and wore them alternate weeks. It wasn't until years later that I learned that this was probably due to the possibility of body lice - they die after a week away from their hosts. Question: is this appropriate info for an Encyclopedia? If not, just treat it as piece of trivia! Jpaulm 14:38, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Not clear: do you guys wear a suit for 1 week or 2 weeks at a time? If it's now 2 weeks, that suggests that things have changed since I was there. And does this apply to Oppidans as well as scholars? Thanks. Jpaulm 00:34, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh well, 2 weeks at a time suggests that the lice are no longer considered a problem :-) Yup, I stumbled across Flow-based programming, and have spent the last few decades trying to get it accepted! Contrary to popular wisdom, if you build a better mousetrap, the world does not beat a path to your door! Jpaulm 00:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
By the way, if the above sounds unduly pessimistic, sometimes one just has to wait - fundamental change sometimes takes several generations! If you haven't read him yet, I suggest Kuhn's "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions". Regards. Jpaulm 01:13, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Define success! Some influential people like it; 3 companies mention it on their web sites; a lot of people say "Hmmm, that's interesting!" and promptly forget about it... Look at [Flowlike projects] (if you haven't already). It will probably never be as well-known as, say, OOP, but I venture to hope in the long run it will be more influential! Thanks for your interest! Jpaulm 17:56, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I work as a programmer. I have a little (2-person - myself and my wife) corporation, but that's really because clients often prefer an "arms' length" arrangement. You can also contribute to my wiki if you are interested - [1] - add your name to the VistorsList, etc. Jpaulm 14:38, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Education edit

Hi Yanksta! I'm just curious as to why you edited the education page. my own entry, in good faith, was to point out the basic inaccuracies in the sub-heading "Challenges", effectively praising the modern school system. You deleted both the inaccuracies and my comments, and left a hand hanging, so to speak. Why, may I ask? (I do recognize that editing is inevitable; the concept of education is controversial, and my edit left the original text so as to offer a more reasonable and accurate description of the other hand.)

[edit] Eton College: top of the world?

Thank you for your comment. I reverted the contribution in line with previous editors with whom I agree. The fact that the word "arguably" is used indicates that the statement is a point-of-view, and as such it is obviously not a neutral point-of-view. It is much more even-handed to use a phrase which allows the reader to form their own view about whether the school is at the top or just near the top. If you can provide an appropriate reliable and independent reference to support Eton's place at the very top in the world, then the text could be replaced. See Wikipedia's policy on neutral point-of-view and guideline on reliable reference sources. -- MightyWarrior 10:39, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

The words: "and is often described as the most famous school in the world" with associated references has my agreement. -- MightyWarrior 12:53, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

No worries. I hadn't actually noticed the more extensive prior discussion when I made that compromise attempt - it seems that the current wording has consensus anyway. Badgerpatrol 11:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

  • PS- Eton College, European Royalty, and Hip Hop artists? Intriguing combination of interests! :-) Badgerpatrol 11:23, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flex Wheeler

referring to a comment you made towards me

"It has been discovered that much of Wheeler's muscular development was aided by a genetic mutation which inhibited the production of myostatin, a key limitor of muscular growth." is what i removed, AND unlike what you said "Referring to your August reversion of an edit to Flex Wheeler, the information you removed was actually correct, contrary to what you claimed. It is now sourced. Yanksta x 14:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)" it is NOT sourced, because it IS incorrect, i will remove it again until it DOES get sourced ( I understand that it wont because its incorrect/myth).

thank you omnipotenttitan 1:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Eton College again

Hi, thanks for the barnstar. But the terminolgy list at Eton College is evidently under attack from one registered editor who seems to have a bee in his bonnet, and several unregistered editors, who may be numerous enough to force this matter. It would be interesting to get the views of a neutral administrator. Meanwhile you might like to consider how the material could be rearranged, without loss of useful information, so that it cannot be attacked as a "list of jargon". Thanks.
