[edit] Quick note - feel free to delete when done reading

Note that the replace list is actually updated daily - sometimes many times a day - to fix problems and add new words. These problems can be important.

Please check for a new version each and every time you use AWB. Add a bookmark to the top of your favorites. That will ensure you always have the best, most complete, bug-free version. Or you can get the same exact version I'm using at that second by using Subversion. You get to see how I work, change, and develop the list, edit by edit, since it shows you the differences between versions. All old versions of the list can be shown so you can see the progress the list has made. If you need any help setting this up, it's actually really easy, I'd be glad to help you out.

Download the latest releases all the time from the project page. Please update right now. Several problems have been found and fixed, and many many words have now been added.
Current version as of this message: 0.0.4.9 --mboverload@

[edit] Weekly AWB spellcheck changes - 0.0.8 and uberness

You are getting this weekly update because you are signed up on the spamlist for updates about mboverload's magical automatic typofixing settings for AWB

  • Good news, I now have a new, fancy, professional wikipedia project page (READ EVERY LINE ITS A REQUIREMENT!!!) and an easy shortcut: [WP:RETF]. I have added every g word and EVERY variation of each word. No, I'm not kidding. I used the dictionary to look for every possible variation. Took FOREVER. =)
  • I have a cool new logo, too!
  • Bill Gates has offered me $1.3 million in venture capital. I'll be taking him up on that offer.
  • Important notice: It has been brought to my attention that several users were unable to open the zip files because they were "corrupted". They weren't corrupted, just using a compression style different than the crappy extractor built in to XP uses. From now all all releases will be checked against the XP extractor. Sorry guys.
  • Don't worry about the download size - it doesn't mean anything. It's the extracted size that matters.
  • Tell your buddies.
  • 0.0.8 is out - go update now.
  • John Connor thinks RegExTypoFix is the precursor to Skynet. Unfortunately for him, mboverload can dodge bullets...and molecules of tear gas.

[edit] I need your help!

Hello, Yanksox.

I recently left a comment regarding the yanerF kciN article (spelled backwards for my protection), and although I may have deserved what I got, I am very, very sorry, and am now in your debt. I recently googled my own name and was horrified to see that same hotheaded comment as the second major result. Please comment back to me urgently or IM me at Onomatopoeia911. I know that I was extremely rude and out of line, and the ball is now in your court. But please, if you do not help me erase it, I fear that my name will be ruined in the internet, and, consequently, the real, world. Please respond ASAP--and again, I am extremely apologetic.

From, Onomatopoeia911.

[edit] Re; I'm Totally lost!

I'm not sure what oversight is. I know I'm being pushy, but if there is any way you could help me with this, I will be indebted to you for a very long time. I am very unwise in the world of online HTML and wikipedia (and, apparently, Internet Etiquette). Please, I have no idea how to further help delete this page. My knowledge extends to about sending you this comment. Do you have an email or IM that I could reach you through, or maybe, if I deleted my account entirely from Wikipedia, would that clear it up?

[edit] Christmas comes early for RegExTypoFix users

Yeah, all you "regular users" not signed up on the mailing list are getting coal. All 200,000 of you.

35 lines added in all

Well it's 2 AM on West Coast USA. California, homies. We all surf (even the 8 billion illegal immigrants). Los Angeles is just like they show it in GTA: San Andreas (but with more hookers). Oh yeah, and we only have one season. We call it "perfect".

Anyway, it is RETF Christmas Secular Celebration Day, and I'm not failing to deliver. I'm saying good bye to converting that whole list over. It's full of misspellings that aren't misspellings and words that aren't ever misspelled. From now on this is my method for finding new words:

  1. Spellcheck a random word from the existing list
  2. Open any article where it corrects more than 1 word
  3. Load it into Microsoft Word and spellcheck
  4. See how many times it shows up in Wikipedia using AWB
  5. If it shows up more than 6 times I'll put it into dictionary.com to make sure it's not a real word
  6. Integrate all versions of a word into regular expressions using dictionary.com as a reference
  7. <datagridFAR find="\b(E|e)nvrionmen(t|ts|tal|tally|talist|talists)\b" replacewith="$1nvironmen$2" />

You can do this too and get thanked in the section below! It really works well!

[edit] Shoutouts!

This is a new section dedicated to thanking people who found problems or suggested new word(s). PLEASE do this, even with one false positive. And please suggest new words, that's how it's going to expand.
Removed

  • "eminent" corrected to "imminent" Thanks to Guinnog for finding this.
  • "Calender" corrected to "calendar". calender is a word. Thanks to Alphachimp. Major props.

Added

  • "noteable" now corrects to "notable". Thanks to Mets, keep it up!

Fixed

  • "gracefuly" is the wrong spelling. it's "gracefully" - Thanks to r b-j, who reported this even though he doesn't use RETF!

[edit] Rfd

On the article Jim Shapiro can you point to ONE thing in the article that is not an attack? I truly believe your 'ruling' is way off the mark. This article meets the definition perfectly. It is not sourced, and it is 100% disparaging. Please show me how it does NOT meet this definition. Meanwhile, I have added the tag back, because the editor who placed it there is absolutely correct. Let's see what another admin has to say.jawesq 03:36, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Delete

You wrote "doesn't seem to be total attack" on Jim Shapiro. Please cite ONE thing in the article that is not an attack. One. I don't understand you and the other admin's actions. This is crazy, and the only thing I can think of is you support each other, without thinking.jawesq 03:44, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Really the entire purpose of the article is to attack Jim Shapiro. It serves no other purpose. He isn't notable. Please reconsider. This is the time to exercise speedy deletion. Gfwesq 03:50, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SPeedy deletion

My husband also added the tag. We are both asking for an explanation as to why this does not merit speedy deletion. There is nothing here in the Jim Shapiro article that does not merit speedy deletion, per Wikipedia criteria. If you all don't think it does, then please explain, or change the criteria. 100% of this article is disparaging, and it is unsourced. That meets the definition. Please show me something in the article that does not meet the definition.jawesq 03:48, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Great. Thanks. My husband and I have requested that admins explain why this does not meet speedy deletion, with examples. So far, nobody has - because they can't.jawesq 03:51, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. However, I would think a potentially libelous article would also merit speedy deletion, whether childish or not.jawesq 03:56, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
See also this rule "Administrators encountering biographies that are unsourced and negative in tone, where there is no NPOV version to revert to, should delete the article without discussion" At this point, having removed the negative unsourced material, there isn't anything left, meaning an admin could not have reverted it to a NPOV.Gfwesq 04:37, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jim Shapiro

The article that was proposed as a CSD attack page read in total:

Jim Shapiro is a personal injury lawyer in Rochester, New York.

I don't see that as an attack.
However, going back into the history, this is presumably the version you object to. The things in this article are stated as factual events and indicative of the career and activities of this individual. If that is so, then it is an accurate article. If these things are made up, then obviously that is a serious matter. If these things are distorted, or exaggerated in the career of an otherwise reputable lawyer, then that also needs to be addressed. It may be a question of putting them into proper perspective. However, you seem outraged simply because anything negative is associated with a lawyer. Wikipedia is here to present the truth, not to do a whitewash. You do not at any time say that these things are untrue, or unrepresentative of this individual. What you do say, quite correctly, is that they are not referenced, and you have removed them, as you are entitled to do. However, if they are properly referenced, then there is no reason why they cannot be reinstated, unless you provide a good reason otherwise. An attack page is when unfair or untrue negative statements are made against an individual. It is not an attack page to show that an individual has done unsavoury things, if that is what an individual has done. I am not making a pronouncement on this particular individual, because I have no knowledge of him. I am just drawing the distinction in principle.
Tyrenius 05:00, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Response to Tyrenius

You wrote: "An attack page is when unfair or untrue negative statements are made against an individual. It is not an attack page to show that an individual has done unsavoury things, if that is what an individual has done." I don't disagree, and I am not so stupid as not to get the point and I wish you would cease treating me as though I were.

I am not asking anyone to whitewash anything. I don't know or want to know the individual in question. Here are the facts: It is a bio that is unsourced and negative in tone. Here is the rule (again)"Administrators encountering biographies that are unsourced and negative in tone, where there is no NPOV version to revert to, should delete the article without discussion". It is very simple to apply the rule to the facts. Does the rule have any meaning or not? From you response, I can see you agree it is negative in tone. From your response, I can see you agree is it lacking sources. There is a disconnect here. But it is not on my end.

You wrote: "However, you seem outraged simply because anything negative is associated with a lawyer. Wikipedia is here to present the truth, not to do a whitewash. You do not at any time say that these things are untrue, or unrepresentative of this individual." First off, I am not outraged that anyting negative is said about a lawyer and it is disengenious of you to say so. I am not particurally outraged in this case. If I were outraged it would be because unsourced negative attacks are allowed to stand in contravention of the stated rule after it has been pointed out.

You wrote: "What you do say, quite correctly, is that they are not referenced, and you have removed them, as you are entitled to do. However, if they are properly referenced, then there is no reason why they cannot be reinstated, unless you provide a good reason otherwise". If it comes back sourced, I will reinstate the WP:NN tag and the Afd. Because even if it is true, he is still not notable. I am know of some case much worse than his (assuming the unsourced facts are ture) which are more notable. (See I can say something negative about lawyers) He is run of the mill. And if my Aunt had... she would be my uncle. But at the moment, the article is unsourced as you point out. It is also negative in tone. And then there is the matter of the Wiki rule. I can do much more than what I have done in pointing out to you the facts. I can draw my own conclusions. Gfwesq 05:43, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Enjoy scrubbing the floors :) -- Avi 12:50, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Let's see, as janitors we're responsible to wash away the dirt (deletion), keep the pests out (protection), and squash the cockroaches (blocking). I hope that's not politically incorrect ;). NoSeptember 13:27, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations. I know you'll do us proud. :) --InShaneee 19:33, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations!

And let me tell you - you picked a shitty Yankee! Damon?? wtf? You've totally exposed your bloody-sock bias here! :) :) - CrazyRussian talk/email 12:34, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] God of War (band)

was deleted by you as A7, recreated, tagged for A7 and G4. I declined both and sent to AfD because an assertion of notability was made. FYI. :) - CrazyRussian talk/email 12:50, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

And one more thing: please don't subst {{wi}} for some technical reason. Rather, please add long comment tags to protect Shortpages. - CrazyRussian talk/email 12:51, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why u deleted my articals???

Please answer my question.

[edit] Prizefight

Hi i was trying to edit 'Prizefight' and kept posting slightly changed versions, on reflecting this was not a cleaver thing to do :( and i understand why you deleted and locked it. Im just interested to know why it was deleted the first times and how i can change it so that it is useful and can stay. Again sorry to be a Nuisance.

[edit] own artical

[edit] RfAs

Image:WikiThanks.png Thank you for the congratulations. As much as I enjoyed the outpouring of support I received in my RfA, I still recognize that RfAs are, like everything else here, about actions not people. I didn't participate in your RfA or anyone else's while I was a candidate, but if I had I would have given you my wholehearted support. You brought up an excellent point in my RfA; I thank you for raising it. It is something that I struggled with for a while before coming to the conclusion written in my response to your question. Rereading that sentence it sounds like I didn't start struggling with it until you asked, which is wrong but I'm too lazy to work out a syntax that avoids that impression. Anyway, as I'm sure you noted I have already taken some steps to address this concern raised by you and W.marsh in your neutrals. If in the future I ever do anything that would drag you further towards an oppose please let me know. —WAvegetarian(talk) 18:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Frizbeer

Hi Yanksox, I saw that you declined to delete this article that was nominated for speedy and prodded it instead. As you know the nominator tagged it as nonsense (which was not an appropriate tag), however, it should have been tagged as db-repost since this recently went through AfD (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Frizbeer). I just wanted to give you a heads-up that I placed a speedy tag on it again, this time with reposting as the reason why it should be deleted. Regards, Accurizer 21:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks

thanks for deletion. Fcn 22:57, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 65.31.100.211

Just thought you might want to know that this guy is a sockpuppet of indefblocked user Crabcan (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log), based on both users' editing patterns, and this edit by the IP.

While I'm here, congrats on your recent adminship. —Whomp t/c 23:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

  • Though some would say it may not be appropriate to thank someone for blocking a user, but in the case of User:65.31.100.211, I'd say it is. And based on the time of his WP:ATTACK edit, I personally would say you showed incredible restraint in the timing (1 minute later) and duration of the block. Congrats on your new adminship. As they say, the mop is in good hands. — MrDolomite | Talk 23:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Since you're now yoked to the mop

Feel like doing some cleanup? I closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/United States health reform 1912-1920 as "userfy" but it's A) An incredible pain to do so and 2) Almost impossible because I keep losing session data. - brenneman {L} 07:46, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion.

Regarding Wrestling General Board (IGN)
This is more for clarification and such than a complaint, but did you not speedy this? I know G4 says "deleted under xfD", so perhaps it was the wrong tag to add (and comment to make on the VfD), but the article still fails A7 and could have been speedied for a second time under that. -- Steel 18:21, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Yanksox, thanks for supporting my RfA. I am honored that the consensus was to allow me the added privilege of the admin mop. I appreciate your note of congratulations and the welcome to the club. — ERcheck (talk) 01:57, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA and your vote

Hi Nick,
Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. But on the brighter side, your RfA ended successfully, which deserves a pat on the back ;). You can feel free to talk to me about it or add some advice on my improvement page.

Sincerely, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me)
