Ellis Paul
Yannis, I see that you do quite a bit of bio assessment/reviewing. I'd like to make a personal request regarding the Ellis Paul article. I'm a little disconcerted that the comments left by the first person to rate the article don't seem to substantiate a B-rating....but I'm new at this. Would really appreciate your feedback if possible. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Kmzundel 17:51, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your feedback! Kmzundel 18:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

- Have incorporated many of your suggestions. Please take another look and let me know if I'm on the right track. Not done by any means, but making progress (I think!). Kmzundel 02:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Billy Campbell
Thanks for the feedback. You recommend renaming the article "Dr. Billy Campbell" to "Billy Campbell (doctor)" and I fully agree with you, however I do not know how to do that - please advise Eulogy4Afriend 02:33, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Congratulations
For the El Greco FA! Good job! Baristarim 08:32, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Don Quixote
Thanks for the note. I would be happy to clean up the article. It has been on my list of top priorities a long time (so you can see how important those are ;) ). Do you read Spanish? You could have a quick look at the wiki.es article. It is not perfect (although I believe it has been featured), but I think it offers up a good way of approaching the material thematically as well as providing a good organisational structure. As for the book, I prefer to pick up a chapter here and there and read it in that fashion. Since it is a picaresque novel, it permits this treatment. Also, I am not that familiar with the wider scholarship surrounding Quixote.
One aspect of the article is the legacy of DQ. We have the novel to contend with as well as the role and image of DQ and Sancho Panza and for that matter Dulcinea in a wider cultural context. I liked the way you dealt with these diverse aspects in the El Greco article - an auspicious sign for a solid and comprehensive treatment of DQ. If you wish to take this article forward, I suggest we aim to go FA, although it will likely take several months of work. At any event, I'm game and happy that you would like to make a stab at it. Eusebeus 14:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I am sorry for not having read your initial message more closely where you answered my query about langauge. My Spanish is good, as is my French and German, so I am happy to provide what is needed from those languages. A revision to the lead is a fine idea, but let's also thrash out a structure that we are happy with as a means of focusing our thinking. Happy New Year to you as well from Canada! Eusebeus 15:20, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I have posted a comment here. Eusebeus 00:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Yannis. That closely follows my own thinking as well. I think its importance in the genesis of modern Spanish language and literature probably deserves its own section as well. The clutter at the end of the article should be lumped into a section on the Cultural Legacy of Don Quixote and then subdivided as necessary for Opera, Film, etc etc etc. The plot breakdown should probably include (or maybe limited to in any detail) the more noteworthy episodes, such as the Windmills, Sheep, Riverboat, etc.... I am happy that you are embracing this project. Eusebeus 20:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
J. P. Morgan Peer review
Hello there. I have noticed that you have peer reviewed several articles at Wikipedia before. I am asking if you could find some time to peer review J. P. Morgan for me, and leave comments at Wikipedia:Peer_review/J. P. Morgan. Many thanks! — Wackymacs 22:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Peer Review of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan
Hi Yannis. I have gone through all of your comments - they were really helpful - and made changes to the article, fixing, expanding and restructuring it. If you have a moment, I'd appreciate you taking another look. I'd like to see if the article would qualify for a higher rating. What would it take to get this to FA? Thanks - Cimm[talk] 00:49, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yannis - I really appreciate you taking a second look and providing so many more valueable comments. I think the article is ready for the next step. I'm trying to determine what the best procedural path is in getting it closer to FA status. If you have any advice on how to proceed, it would be much appreciated! Thank you again for all your help! Cimm[talk] 00:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

- Thank you Yannis, for the kind welcome message, as well as your advise on seeking further feedback on the article! I plan to explore possibilities for improving the family section, and then proceed with a general peer-review. I will invite the users that you recommended to review and copy-edit the article, and after receiving everybody's feedback I will once again evaluate the most appropriate next steps towards FA. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Thank you again for your invaluable contributions and assistance! Cimm[talk] 19:19, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Yannis - just wanted to give you a heads up that I have started a new general peer review for Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan. I invited the users tat you recommended, and they are working their magic - great comments comming back. Feel free to take a look ad add your two cents when you have a moment. Thanks again for your help! Cimm[talk] 02:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello again Yannis! The peer review received wonderful feedback for the article, and lots of encouragement to nominate it for FAC. As a result, I have done just that! The FAC page is here. Thanks again for your feedback and encouragement! Cimm[talk] 23:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
FAC
Can you please tell me how to withdraw a FAC candidacy. Thanks Kyriakos 05:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm thinking about it. The FAC's nom has gone down the drain some I'm going to work on the comments. Kyriakos 21:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
WPHOG
I just read your suggestion at the talk page of WPHOG and I think that a MIlitary history of Greece would be a great idea. And I was also wondering if it would include the Military history of Greece from the Minoan/Mycenenean age all the way to modern history or from archaic and classical to modern. Kyriakos 22:59, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Charles Edward Magoon
Thanks for rating my article on Mr. Magoon as "A". I would really appreciate any feedback that you could provide on it possibly being a FA candidate in the future. I know it still needs work to reach that point, but you might have advice that would help me get there. JRP 23:22, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Roman-Spartan War
Hi Yanni, I withdrew the Roman-SPartan War from FAC and I put it on Peer Review at WPMILHIST. So if you have the time and don't mind could you please go and leave some suggestions becuase they always seem to be of good value and worth while. Thanks in advance and also I forgotto congratulate you on El Greco becoming a FA. It's great that you took the article of the greatest Greek painter to FA level. Kyriakos 05:49, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: A-Class - Biography project
The most straightforward approach would probably be to start a discussion on the project's main talk page; it's usually fairly easy to come to some sort of rough consensus on a sensible proposal (although their may be some back-and-forth debate on specific points, such as the duration of the reviews and so forth). Once people are in agreement, you can start actually implementing changes; the first creation of such a process should be quite active, as you'll have the opportunity to run your existing A-Class articles through it. I would suggest doing everything slowly, though; the last thing you want is to create the impression that the program is being pushed over objections.
Aside from that is another point: running such a review process requires a fair amount of administrative work—posting notices and reminders, helping people set up nominations, closing and archiving reviews, etc. In WPMILHIST, this is handled by the coordinators (mostly by myself, really); but WPBIO doesn't have such a group (and Plange, who was working as the de-facto coordinator, seems to be inactive now), so you might want to consider the issue of who will keep the process running before you start it off. My Request for Adminship
Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. I hope that my janitorial efforts here on Wikipedia don't stop me from getting on with the job of contributing directly to the encyclopedia. Thanks fo the assessment. I was hoping for a higher rating of course, mainyl because its about as omplete as it's going to get, I've exhausted almost every source. I'll improve on it though. Btw, have you given thought to possibly being an admin?--Wizardman 02:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Peer review/Armia Krajowa
Thank you for your comments, I believe I have addressed most of them. If you have time, could you look at the recent dispute on the article's talk page and offer some comments on that issue? I am afraid as long as there are only two opposed voices we are rather deadlocked.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 03:12, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Roman-Spartan War

Re:AK
Thank you for your note left on my talk. Could you point me out there is information was placed if it was not deleted:
- While Armia Krajowa`s commanders continued to accuse Lithuanians of collaborating with Germans, Krajowa itself did not hesitate to collaborate with Nazis. On 1944 AK leadership agreed not to attack Germans and to help them fight Soviet partisans. From other side Germans also did not allow Lithuanian Security Police to arrest known commanders of AK and often released arrested AK soldiers from prison or denounced persecution, supplied weapons, ammunition and etc. AK cooperation with Germans intensified, when Lithuanian authorities denounced possibility to established Lithuanian SS group.
- From 1943 AK especially targeted Lithuanian elementary schools and already in 1943 successfully paralyzed activity of schools. During these years many Lithuanian teachers there brutally tortured or killed. On the same year AK commanders openly threaten to continue use of terror against Lithuanians."???
Or maybe this is too don't think that Piotrus deletes information from the article.[1] and that your opinion on intervening in article which has {{inuse}} tag [2]. Best regards, M.K. 09:50, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank for message again, it was quick:) Quick remark about deletion, yesterday or more exactly today I writing this article in ~2.30 at night, and I did not manage to finish with referencing properly, but I left the note no summary - [3] but this not prevented Piotrus from removing it. While you noted that - I am not going to decide what info should leave and what should stay. but Piotrus used one-sided methods of removal info without any discusion which of them should stay or which should go into different article; despite my suggestion to do so in first place before splinting it long time ago- [4]. But Piotrus failed to cooperate back then.M.K. 10:09, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your assistance. I will finish with referencing part and then we all could discuss which parts should go to other article. And only after proper discussions we should take actions moving/deleting info. M.K. 10:24, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Please see comments about unreliable sources on talk. This sections need to be shortened, not expanded, adding controversial POVed information supposed by a fringe non-English publication is not improving this GA (nor would it any article). Nobody on the talk is supporting M.K.'s edits - this is a clear sign of POV-pushing against consensus.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 16:42, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I was wondering why the decision was taken and how the star is supposed to get there (I though it has to make it to main page or something - btw, how does one get it there?). I still don't know how to get the star in the right-hand corner of the article (and if I should do it myself). Thanks for the encouragements and the kind words. Dahn 22:02, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Heelp with "Byzantine-Seljuk wars"
Hello. I have been trying in vain to ask someone to do a campaign box for "Byzantine-Seljuk wars" involving the following battles:
Caesarea Manzikert Nicaea (1077) Antioch (1084) Nicaea (1096) Myriokephalon (1176)
But no one has come to the rescue. Could you please do one? I don't knwo how to make one. If you could do so, I would be very grateful. Thanks. Tourskin 12:27, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Ellis Paul article redux
Yannis, I incorporated many of your suggestions and have added a "songwriting" section to the Ellis Paul article...but what I'm most excited about is that I managed to learn how to add a sound sample box and have included 2 song samples and one poem sample. Can I implore you to take another look and possibly see if you think the article has improved enough to be considered a GAC? Re-rating? Thank you for your time and consideration. Kind regards. WP:GREECE
Hi Yanni, I was wondering about what to do with this WP. It seems to be going nowhere. I am adding an assessment department but I think it migt need to be merged with WP:HOG. What do you think? Kyriakos 01:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
So if we were to merge the projects, would that make the History of Greece a task force in the WP:GREECE? Also if we do merge it the biggest problem would most probably get people to join up to Greece. I could work but I think it would be hard. Kyriakos 23:19, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you did incorporate a number of my suggestions in the article, in your own way. I believe that the article is much clearer in certain areas as a result of your careful consideration of some points I raised, in fact, I think the article is superb. Thanks for taking the time to do such an excellent job on the article, for working so well with the other editors, and for considering all of the criticisms offered for improvement. I love seeing such a high-caliber Wikipedia FA on the main page, and I love knowing that it is the result of dedicated work by many editors, but, in particular, one who was able to work well with other Wikipedia editors to make something worthwhile really shine. I noticed that there was a merger between Greece-related wiki projects and also noticed that you just created new categories like Category:Top-importance Greek articles. Please advise me about AfD
I'm mostly an AfD specialist here on Wikipedia. A couple of other users have made criticisms of things I said, which may be valid (see my user talk page). I was wondering if you, as an admin, could review some of my contributions to AfD and suggest ways I could make my involvement there more useful. YechielMan 02:37, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Yanni, the Roman-Spartan War has been re-nominated for FA. Could you please leave a comment. Thanks. Kyriakos 00:15, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Aaron Sorkin article at FAC
Hello Yanni. I really enjoy reading your articles on the lives of ancient Greeks. I've modeled the Aaron Sorkin article after much of what you've done. I would appreciate if you could peer review the work I've done on the Aaron Sorkin article over at FAC. Keep on writing cuz you're raising the bar for quality at Wikipedia.-BiancaOfHell 04:17, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Re:Cyprus-stub
Hi - you wrote:
- UK has jurisdiction over the bases but for limited military reasons; it is nor "sovereignity" as it was incorrectly told. And it is in no way "state sovereignity". It is jurisdiction limited in military purposes; not economic purposes, not other purposes. The misinterpretation of the Treaty of Establishment by the UK does not create international law. The Treaty, in article 4 I think, clearly and strictly confines the British jurisdiction in military purposes. Checking the history of the article, I saw that there was no agreement on the map. Valentinian removed the map, but there was no discussion between Greek, Turkish, Cypriots users as you say; at least in the article's talk page. For all the above reasons, and because I see no reason that the article can't be in those 75% stubs of articles with a flag, I intend to launch a poll. It is time to actually see what the Greek, Turkish, and Cypriots users believe.
The discussion was prior to the creation of the stub type, at various WikiProject Stub sorting pages, as is standard practice before the creation of a new stub type. There is no way that this could have been discussed prior to the stub's creation at the stub's talk page - it didn't have one then! As far as using it for the 75% of articles with a flag, that simply begs the question of what to use on those pages that don't - and the answer to that is straightforward and simple: either a Cyprus-stub without a flag, or a TRNC-stub. If you would pref3er there to be a separate stub type for articles dealing with the North of Cyprus, then please feel free to continue arguing in favour of using a flag. If not, I suggest you go with what was decided earlier - that a flag is too divisive a symbol to be used for stub templates. As such, it is likely to lead to edit-warring, which - in the case of templates, casuses far greater havoc to Wikipedia's servers than it does on articles. On templates with linked and dedicated categories, the damage is even more severe. This is who WP:BOLD stipulates that it does not relate to templates, but only to articles, for example. I for one do not wish to see an edit war on this \or any other stub template - I also have no wish to see a separate TRNC-stub. Yet insistence on using a flag rather than a map on this template will only cause one or the other (or both) of these things to happen. Grutness...wha? 19:50, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

- BTW, if you do intend to run a poll, as you suggest, you should probabkly read this first. A poll would probably have exactly the opposite effect from what you intend, in that it would only increase any hostility between editors involved in this discussion, and make it less likely to achieve consensus. Your idea about maps
Hi, I finally found a way of producing those maps for the Aegean articles we were talking about. Check my recent contributions on commons. Nice thing is, these are all free svg maps, vectorized, so I can easily change them, adapt colours, anything, in case they are not to people's tastes. Fut.Perf. ☼ 00:55, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was using a new programme for editing SVG graphics, Inkscape. It's free software, but it's not quite mature yet and I find it has a few quirks. Apparently it was only just released this month. What I did was, I scanned an existing map, loaded it into the program as a simple bitmap, then re-drew the contours over it with the mouse. The result is a vectorised contour. Once you have that, you can resize it, transform it, fill it with colours, add text, anything. The nice thing about vector graphics is you can always reuse the contour data once you have it, it can be scaled to any size and any screen/printer resolution without loss in quality. But handling those colours and the text in Inkscape was a bit involved. There's also a great free site here: [6], where you can get free contour map in postscript format for any part of the earth. Unfortunately I haven't found a way yet of transforming the postscript into SVG. Fut.Perf. ☼ 16:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Bart King
Greetings, I'm currently involved in a biography article on Bart King, an American cricketer. The article is being reviewed right now and there are some NPOV problems. In the review, User:Seegoon suggested that I ask you for advice as an experienced biography editor. Would you be willing to take a look, added your suggestions, and edit what you see? Thanks very much.--Eva bd 15:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for your help in reviewing the NPOC issues here. I think that your suggestions have made a much nicer article. It is appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Evadb (talk • contribs) 14:58, 30 January 2007 (UTC).
Peer review
Yannis, would you consider adding Wikipedia:Peer review/El Hatillo Municipality, Miranda to your peer review list when you have time? I was mostly the only input on Enano's second peer review - and did most of the copyediting - so it really needs a new set of eyes, preferably someone unfamiliar with the text. I know El Hatillo well, so I'm too close to it. I also helped him seek out other references (from USA bookstores), and there's almost nothing in English, but his sourcing is good and accurate. He's worked hard on it for a very long time and really wants to take it to FAC - if you're able to look it over, that would be splendid. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, Yannis - I responded to a few for enano, but will leave the rest to his choice. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Help over at CAT:CSD
Hi, and congrats on your promotion! Per this discussion, I'm dropping a friendly note to some of the recently-promoted admins requesting help with speedy deletions. I am not an administrator, so if you don't feel comfortable diving into deletions - or if you need more info - please don't come to me, but I'm sure that Cyde Weys would be happy to guide you if you want to help. Any help is great, but I'm sure that Cyde and others would deeply appreciate it if you could put the page on your watchlist and do a bit of work there on a regular basis? Maybe weekly? Thanks in advance! Anchoress 18:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Peer review for Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Tikanis Yannismarou, could you please check the article Armenian Revolutionary Federation and like give me suggestions on how to make it featured please? I've been working on it for awhile now and it passed as a GA a week or two ago. It's been on peer review and user:Trebor has helped me make it better. He suggested I try to contact new eyes now and seeing as how you are pretty experienced and good at featured articles, I was wondering if you'd take a look at it and give me suggestions. Thanks alot man. - Fedayee 20:05, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
