[edit] Municipal mergers

  • Shirakami - The district (all but the town of Fujisato) was originally scheduled to merge with Noshiro to form the new city of Shirakami, but the city of Noshiro was the only one opposed with this name, and left the merger conference. The remaining 6 towns and villages tried to merge but this was also backfired because this merger will turn both Hachimori and Minehama into an enclave of the new city. The city of Noshiro tried to return to the conference but the district denied by saying "I cannot rely on Noshiro," and the conference split into three different merger conferences of "Noshiro-Futatsui," "Southern 3 towns," and "Northern 2 towns and villages."
  • Noshiro-Futatsui - The city of Noshiro, who was denied to return the merger conference, asked the independent town of Futatsui to merge, launched the Noshiro-Futatsui Merger Conference, and merged to form the new city of Noshiro. (The town of Futatsui wanted the new city's name to be Yoneshiro (米代市))
  • Southern 3 towns - The three towns of Hachiryu, Kotoka, and Yamamoto merged, forming the new town of Mitane.
  • Northern 2 towns and villages - The town of Hachimori and the villages of Minehama merged, forming the new town of Happo.
