Yad Kennedy

Yad Kennedy located near Jerusalem, Israel is a memorial to John F. Kennedy, President of the United States, who was assassinated in 1963.

It consists of a 60-foot-high memorial in the shape of a felled tree trunk, symbolizing a life cut short. Inside is a bust of John F. Kennedy, and an eternal flame burning in the center. The mountaintop memorial is encircled by 51 columns, each bearing the emblem of a state of the Union, plus the District of Columbia. It was built in 1966 with funds donated by Jewish communities in the USA.

It was designed by the Israeli sculptor Dov Feigon, the circular hall is divided into sections for each of the states of USA and the official emblem of a different state appears on the window on each section.

The site is located is seven miles from downtown Jerusalem, in the same general direction of Hadassah Medical Center, reached by following the winding mountain roads past the Aminadav Moshav. The monument and adjoining picnic grounds are part of the John F. Kennedy Peace Forest.
