Yaba (Lagos)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yaba is a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria. Yaba, an area forming part of the Lagos Mainland Local Government (the other being Ebute-Metta), is also a commercial part of Lagos. It also has an history which may not go as far back as its neighbours like Otto and Lagos Island or preferably Eko. It consisted of no more visible villages which due to rapid development have become places with a better defined identity. Areas like Makoko and Iwaya are areas still coming from behind with structures that seems out of place in a trendy region. Sabo and Lagos' premier girls' school, Queen's College is located there. A section of the Lagos Mainland local government, many parts of it are rundown.

Other institutions of interest in Yaba are the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, the Yaba College of Technology, Igbobi College, and the University of Lagos.
