Y Byd

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Y Byd (The World) is scheduled to be the first Welsh language daily newspaper, and will be published five days a week, from Monday to Friday. A launch date of spring 2007 is now being given.

Publication was initially held up by the need to find sufficient subscribers, and several anticipated launch dates have come and gone, but £300,000 worth of subscriptions have now been placed, and staff are being employed.

It was announced [1] on 28th November 2006 that the paper has appointed an editor and deputy editor, these appointments being wholly dependent on the securing of grants from Europe. Aled Price, the editor, is a journalist from Cardiff who has previously worked for BBC Cymru and S4C. Catrin Rogers, the deputy editor, is currently working as editor of a local paper in Hounslow, London, and has also worked as a freelance journalist.
