Hi there. Newbie contributor here: I edited a thermodyamics article and a fire safety article for very minor content/spelling issues a couple years back, but only recently got this account.
My first wikipedia contribution was an addition to the notoriety section of a page on a local point of interest, Zanta, here in Toronto. He is a man who wanders toronto wearing only shorts, shoes and a Santa hat, doing large numbers of pushups. Two weeks later, the page was deleted on A7, the reason cited as being "as per IRC chat". Ah hah, said I. December 2006 sees me learning about the politics of editing a massive multi-author knowledge database. Who could have thought.
I'm a 24 year old professional engineer in training, and, given the newfound profficiency I may gain from what I may come to call "the Zanta incident", I could become a topic specific contributor, specializing in:
- green building design
- mechanical engineering
- climate change
- social activism and city community involvement (Hmm, I wonder if Kev and Lori of NewMindSpace are relevant enough for a page yet...)
- queer interest issues
- bisexual and gay health issues
Alternately, the Zanta incident may teach me an intrinsic distrust of the editing procedures here at the WP, and I may seek more trustworthy places to put my brain-dumps. Just as well to know sooner rather than later! =)
