XRes

- The correct title of this article is xRes. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
xRes was a picture editing software by Macromedia, similar to The GIMP and Adobe Photoshop. It allowed real time preview of work, and the color tools were much more accurate than Photoshop.
It died after Version 3 because Macromedia wanted a faster release cycle, and the programmers wanted to make a top selling picture editing software. The latter would take too much time, which meant the writing was on the wall. At this point, three of the main programmers left the company. While they were replaced with some pretty serious talent, Macromedia's focus had changed so much that xRes was not going to make it.
