XM8 armament subsystem

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XM8 armament subsystem was a mount for one M129 40mm grenade launcher for either the OH-6 or OH-58 light observation helicopters. The system is provided with an XM70/E1 sight and 150 rounds of ammunition. The XM8's mount is interchangeable with the M27 system.

It was a development for the M129 grenade launcher, intended to be use with the M27 mount on OH-6A Cayuse and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters. This armarment subsystem was worked on from 1967 to 1972, but was not formally adopted. It was electrically powered and controlled by the pilot. The system was tested with an XM70/E1 sight.
