Xingyang

Xingyang (Simplified: 荥阳；Traditional: 荥陽；Hanyu Pinyin: xíngyáng), is one of county-level cities of Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. It is 15 Kilometre away from and in the west of Zhengzhou and is the closest ciry to Zhengzhou as well. The population of Xingyang is 620,000 and the area of Xingyang is as large as 908 km².

The prefecture-level city of Xingyang administers 16 sub-county-level divisions, including 9 towns, 4 rural areas and 2 county-level districts and 1 landscape division.

The name of Xingyang came from Shangshu, which means the city located in the north of a river named Xing(Simplified: 荥；Traditional: 荥；Hanyu Pinyin: xíng). Xingyang can find its name in history books wrote more than 3,000 years ago.

It is regarded as the place where Chang'e flied to the Moon. In addition, many influential persons in history were born in Xingyang, such as Shen Buhai (申不害，a legalist in the Warring States Period) and Li Shangyin (李商隐，a poet in late Tang Dynasty). Moreover, Xingyang is considered of the origin place of the people whose surname is Zheng (郑氏) in the world.

In 2004 the GDP is ¥ 11.3 Billion, the GDP per capita for citizens is ¥ 7,646 and the GDP per capita for peasants is ¥ 3,875.

Transportation

Travelling within the city is easy and cheap by taxi. In 2005 the base rate is about ¥ 4, which includes the first 3 kilometres. Every additional kilometre is ¥ 1. Fares are generally somewhat higher during late evening and night. Normally ¥ 5 can take anywhere in Xingyang.

Tourism Sites

1. Chuhehanjie (楚河汉界) was a famous place in Western Han Dynasty (西汉，or 西漢) where Liu Bang, the creator of Western Han Dynasty, broke down his primary enemy, Xiang Yu (项羽).

2. Hulaoguan (虎牢关) is an important site in Three Kingdoms Period (三国) where Lu Bu (吕布) fought with Liu Bei (刘备, or 劉备), Guan Yu (关羽) and Zhang Fei (张飞, or 张飛).
