XHMORE-FM (AKA XMOR-FM), also known as Blazin' 98.9 FM, is a Rhythmic Contemporary outlet serving the San Diego-Tijuana radio market. The station, whose city of license is Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and broadcasts at 98.9 MHz with an ERP of 100 kW, is operated by MEC Communications, with its license and transmitter owned by a Mexican company.

[edit] History

XHMORE originally was a Top 40 outlet with English-language music and Spanish-speaking DJs until they changed to a Spanish modern rock format in 1994 as MORE-FM. In June 2003 MEC took over the station and in February 2004 flipped it to a bilingual Hispanic Rhythmic using the slogan "Hip-hop y más." But by summer 2004 they went in an English-language Rhythmic Contemporary direction and changed their moniker to Blazin' 98.9 FM. The move put them in direct competition with XHITZ, a move that would have a lasting effect on the latter in terms of ratings and listeners.

According to an announcement made on Z90.3, Blazin 98.9 will be changing formats pretty soon eliminating Blazin 989. Bennie Siegal, the night DJ on Blazin, was heard on Z90's airwaves on Monday, October 23rd and he claimed he was now a part of Z90. He was a weekend DJ at Z90 until sometime in December 2006, when his MySpace page stated that he was doing nights at 103.5 the Bomb, a Sacramento radio station. Blazin's website now shows under construction. There are rumors going around that the station is changing over to a Mainstream Urban Outlet. At XMOR (Blazin' 98.9)/San Diego, PD DJ Seize is out as the station goes through a format alteration. Also out is the entire airstaff with the exception of midday host Vanya, who will assist McVay Media as the station evolves from Rhythmic to a more Hip Hop and R&B Mainstream format. As of now, the station remains Rhythmic Contemporary

[edit] Programming

blazin 98.9 is a Rhythmic Contemporary-formatted radio station that ranges from typical hip-hop and R&B to Pop and Hispanic Rhythmic. This is due to the fact that San Diego is a very diversified Town that has various music tastes. XMOR is owned by MEC Communications
