Xboard Communication Protocol

The Xboard Communication Protocol is a free, open-source communication protocol that enables a chess program’s engine to communicate with its graphical user interface.
As of 2006, there are more than 300 public Chess engines that support this protocol.
Being one of the two major Chess engine protocols it is supported by at least 30 interfaces with varying degrees of compatibility.
