[edit] XLRI culture

XLRI has consistently been ranked by national magazines as a top 5 business school in India. Over the years, XLRI has also evolved a unique culture of its own, that separates it from most other business schools. To begin with, a compact campus that houses the faculty, students and the academic blocks within 40 acres leads to a lot of camaraderie. The 400 odd students pride themselves on knowing every other student/faculty personally. The campus is nestled in the green city of Jamshedpur with its own hills to the west (Dalma hills) and the Subarnarekha river.

The students have an active hand in college affairs - for instance the entire placement process is organized and conducted by a group of students that form the Placement Committee (PlaceComm). Other important committees handling different functions are -

  • CRESCENT: Committee for REsearch, Strategy, Consulting & ENTrepreneurship
  • DRACULA: Dramatics and Cultural Society
  • EL: External Linkages Cell
  • FINAX: Finance Association of XLRI
  • FIRE@X: Industrial Relations Association of XLRI
  • MAXI: Marketing Association of XLRI
  • POISE (student exchange)
  • SAC: Student Affairs Council
  • SAPPHIRE (Students' Association for Promotion of Personnel Management Human resource management and Industrial Relations)
  • SOCRATES: Society for the Rapid Assimilation of Technology and Systems
  • SPORTSCOMM: the Sports committee
  • XLNC: XLRI Nature Club

In addition to these formal committes, there are many "unofficial" committes such as PIXEL, SIGMA, BLAX, CFS, FLIX, GRAX, OMAXI and so on.

The students stay together on campus for two years and then graduate to join a vast, active network of XL alumni around the world. Alumni meets are held every year around May-June in various cities in India as well as in the USA, UK and Dubai.
