[edit] Summary
When XANA creates a ghost that can change its shape at will and doesn't need to possess a host, he uses it to drive a wedge between the group by having it kiss people while disguised as them.
[edit] Recap
The episode begins with the gang listing off every girl Odd has dated. Jeane Le Bihan, Azra Ürgüp, Claire Girard and Lola Keiffer are mentioned, and Odd acts proud of his love life. Turns out Odd has dated every female in the eighth grade except for Sissi. Odd just says that he's looking for true love and mentions that he has to meet his current girlfriend, Heïdi Klinger, in the Quad. Sissi comes by and asks if Ulrich would like to see the new blockbuster, Adventure In The Tropics, with her at the cinema. Ulrich immediately says he's seen it once she answers. Hervé offers to accompany her, but he gets shut down by the angry Sissi.
In the Powder Room, the guys are brushing their teeth. Hervé comes in and overhears Ulrich saying that he never really saw that movie and just said so to get rid of Sissi. Hervé gets peeved at this and tries to start a fight with Ulrich, saying "You make me sick, Stern!". Hervé's unwilling adversary just stands there as Hervé does of series of poorly-executed karate moves that end with him whacking his hand on a sink. Ulrich comments that that had to hurt, while Odd laughs with his mouth full of toothpaste. Hervé walks out in shame. Ulrich notes that shame has a strange effect on people. Jeremie starts to walk out, saying that he promised to give Aelita his crossiant at breakfast because she likes to have those with her chocolate milk. Odd missed what Ulrich was saying and asks for a repeat. Ulrich just says that there are no exceptions to the rule.
One of the Towers in the Desert Sector of Lyoko goes red.
Back in the Powder Room, an electrical socket shorts out and one of XANA's ghosts emerges.
Near the Refectories, Heïdi is seen waiting for Odd. Jeremie comes up and she asks if he's seen Odd. He doesn't say anything in response. Instead, he dives into kissing the confused blonde just as Odd shows up. Odd witnesses this event, and storms off while Heïdi gives Jeremie a look of murder.
In one of the Refectories, one of the other ninth grade students, Matthias Burel, is attempting to purchase a soft drink. Immediately, Yumi comes up. Matthias gives Yumi a friendly greeting and asks her if she could help him study for a math quiz. She doesn't answer, and instead gives Matthias a long, powerful kiss that leaves the boy's glasses askew. Unlike Heïdi, Matthias recovers in stride and is elated by this spontaneous occurrence and congratulates himself on having remembered to brush his teeth that morning. However, William has seen this event and is nowhere near as pleased as Matthias was.
As Aelita and Jeremie are just coming out to the Quad, Heïdi comes by and angrily questions him about the kiss. Jeremie claims to have no memory of it. Aelita isn't too pleased with the news. She walks away angrily.
In the Cafeteria, the others, minus Yumi, don't believe Jeremie when he says he didn't kiss Heïdi. Odd tells Jeremie to go sit with Heïdi, who is sitting alone at another table, dejectedly stirring her breakfast cereal. Ulrich, the last to leave, takes Jeremie's crossiant since Aelita obviously doesn't want it anymore due to jealousy. William tells Ulrich about Matthias and Yumi as he's leaving the Cafeteria. Yumi shows up and takes the crossiant Ulrich took from Jeremie. William confronts Yumi and asks her what she think of Matthias. She simply says, "What? He's a nice guy." Ulrich and William aren't inclined to believe her and she and Jeremie are left alone and confused. As they are left waiting, there is another Yumi in the bathroom; this one with the Eye of XANA pasted on her forehead. She dissolves into a black residue and reforms into Ulrich.
In another part of the Quad, Hervé is trying to tell Sissi what Ulrich said in the bathroom. She doesn't believe him, of course. As luck would have it, Ulrich shows up at this point. He walks straight up to Sissi and kisses her. Jeremie and Yumi are there to see it. Hervé wonders what Ulrich has that he doesn't. Nicolas responds with the short statement, "Everything except your gross pimples." Hervé rolls down his sleeves, ready to fight. Nicolas just socks Hervé, blacking him out in one punch.
In class, Jeremie tries to talk to Aelita. She just says they're in class and can't talk. Giles Fumet, the history teacher, calls the class to order and picks them up where they left off: the contributing factors to the cause of World War I. As he lectures on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Austria, Ulrich tries to talk to Jeremie about how kissing Heïdi wasn't kind. Jeremie shocks Ulrich with the accusation that he kissed Sissi.
Outside, Jim catches Ulrich walking around during his patrol of the grounds. When he tries to chase him, he looses him. Yolande Perraudin is then seen walking up to Jim. She gives him a kiss and walks off while Jim blushes.
In History class again, Ulrich asks about Jeremie about kissing Heïdi, which Jeremie answers with a question about Ulrich kissing Sissi. As is expected, Ulrich doesn't remember doing any such thing. Overhearing the chatter, Master Fumet asks Ulrich when Galleni died. Ulrich answers with "He died at the end of his life." The class gets a good laugh out of this, and Master Fumet stands crestfallen.
Once class is over, Jeremie tries again to talk to Aelita. Instead of saying something, she kisses a shocked Nicolas and walks off. When Aelita comes by to talk to Jeremie at his room, he goes off on a short rant about her kissing Nicolas then storms into his room. He throws a pillow at his wall in anger once he's inside. Aelita just runs off. The Super Scanner picks up an activated Tower and he contacts everyone. Aelita has her phone set to voicemail so calling her turns out to be useless.
In the Park, they realize that XANA must have made a Polymorphic Clone to drive a wedge between them. Once they've got it all straightened out, they turn to the problem of Aelita. Jeremie thinks he an idea of where she went.
Jeremie penetrates deep into the city's woodland reserve to The Hermitage. In this ransacked house, Aelita is sitting on the bed in the little girl's room, crying. Jeremie comes up and apologizes for what he said earlier. He even gives her a kiss on her lips to prove it. As the pair leave, another Jeremie comes up. Each Jeremie tries to convince Aelita that he's the real one. The others show up, as well, and are equally confused. Aelita realizes that the real Jeremie never would have kissed her and reveals the fake one. Angry, the Polymorphic Clone tries to grab the princess in an attempt to restrain her. The others tackle and disable it for a short time. Everyone except Odd heads for the Factory. Odd stays behind to deal with the clone. Once it gets back up, it shuffles through a few forms (Gilles Fumet and Suzanne Hertz) eventually stopping on Jim. Odd's no match for "Jim" and is forced back into the Hermitage after a short brawl.
At the Factory, Jeremie transfers, scans and virtualizes Aelita, Ulrich and Yumi to Lyoko. The Tower is seen just over a small land bridge. As they head for it, Hornets intercept them. Aelita continues for the Tower as her protectors fight off the monsters with Tessen Fans and Katanas. The Hornets are adept, however, managing to loose only one of their number to Yumi's Tessen Fan. Eventually, XANA sends a Tarantula for backup. During all this fighting, Aelita makes it over the land bridge. Once she does, the narrow pathway disappears.
Back at The Hermitage, the clone is continuing to beat Odd up and chasing him around the various debris-strewn foyer, knocking Odd against a couch in the parlor. Odd makes a comment about how it should change into a wimp instead of all these different forms. As if to insult him, the clone changes into a double of Odd. Odd takes it in stride, saying that he knows his type to be small, but tough as nails. The clone triple backflips, knocks Odd out and heads for the Factory.
Back on Lyoko, Yumi is having trouble with the Tarantula. Her Tessen Fans are knocked aside by the monster's powerful foreleg lasers and it manages to get a couple of hits on her. She and Ulrich decide to switch fighting partners. Ulrich starts blocking the Tarantula's lasers while Yumi deals with the Hornets. The flying monsters still haven't lost any more of their squadron. Jeremie sends Yumi the Overwing for backup. He also demonstrates that he can control it remotely. As Yumi is flying away from the Hornets, they manage to send her into a spin with a hit on the shoulder. Jeremie is able to take control of the Overwing and catch Yumi before she takes a tumble. Meanwhile, Ulrich uses his Super Sprint to get behind the Tarantula. He moves back and forth behind its head at his heightened levels of speed so the monster can't see him. XANA sends two more Hornets to put an end to this new tactic employed by his human enemies. Yumi notices and finally manages to destroy her four Hornets. As she comes to help Ulrich, the Tarnatula devirtualizes her Vehicle. A Hornet removes her from play as Ulrich comes to rescue her.
Back at The Hermitage, Odd comes to and heads for the Factory. At the same time, the clone arrives at the bridge connecting the Factory's river island with the rest of the city. It takes the elevator to the Lab. On the way, it shifts into Yumi's form. Once Jeremie sees it, it pretends to be Yumi and watches the battle from his screen. Yumi is seen on the floor below, unable to get operate the elevator.
Back on Lyoko, the Scyphozoa arrives to take Aelita's memories. Jeremie warns Ulrich and materializes the Overbike.
The clone grabs Jeremie and tosses him into a wall. It promptly takes the bike away. Yumi, who has finally arrived, confronts the clone. Jeremie gets back up and urges Ulrich to hurry since Aelita's memory is almost gone.
Back on Lyoko, Ulrich is left without a bike and several monsters chasing him. With no other way to get to Aelita, he runs for where the land bridge was and jumps for the other side. His momentum puts a sizeable dent in the ground as he does so. He gets just far enough to grab the ledge and climb up.
Back in the Lab, Odd arrives to find the two Yumis facing off. One of them tells Odd that she's the real Yumi, including the word pea-brain to emphasize it. Odd doesn't seem convinced, and acts as if he's going to punch that Yumi. Instead of hitting her, both of them turn on the clone and tackle it. It doesn't take much effort from the clone to return the favor. It tosses both of them into opposite walls.
On Lyoko, Ulrich separates the Scyphozoa from Aelita with by chucking his katana at the monster's Eye of XANA, effectively scaring it away. Aelita recovers and heads to the Tower. She shuts it down with the Code: LYOKO just before the clone can kill Jeremie with an improvised weapon. With the Tower deactivated, the clone dissolves into a gas and vaporizes completely on the ceiling.
Back at the school, Jim is trying to give the nurse a flower. She's flattered, but reports to the crushed campus supervisor that she is already engaged to be married. She also thinks that he must have imagined the kiss and insists he lie down for a bit.
In the Quad, the gang is talking about how Odd knew which Yumi was the real one. He says the pea-brain comment gave it away. He thinks that XANA would never say that to him because of the respect he has for Odd. Jeremie justs says it's because XANA doesn't know him as well as Yumi. Aelita has Jeremie come aside for a moment to check something. She kisses him and says that everything's fine. Jeremie is frozen in place, and his friends are sure he'll stay that way for some time

[edit] Trivia
[edit] Cinematic Notes
- Jeremie says that Aelita has almost no memory left but when we look at the screen it's in the thousands.
- When the Polymorphic Clone of Yumi says "Why isn't this elevator working?!", it didn't have the evil undertone at first. But later, when it says "Devirtualization", it has the undertone. (It was actually the real Yumi that said "Why isn't this elevator working?!")
[edit] Culture Notes
- Croissants are apparently a very popular snack food at the school. This thin, flaky crescent shaped bread is also an extremely popular treat in France as well as the United States. In the US, it's commonly used as a breakfast food or to make small sandwiches.
