Description

Alex's DBZ RPG (http://www.alexsdbzrpg.com) refers to a series of online Indie role-playing games created by a professional game developer Penguin Run Games. Their games are created using html, php, and mysql. Colloquially known by the acronym ADBZRPG, the self-published games are renowned for their high level of complexity and vast mythology, which exceeds that found in most other MMORPGs. ADBZRPG transports the user into the heart of the Dragonball Z universe. Members actively expand on that universe by assuming the role of a character and interacting with other characters. ADBZRPG attracts fans of all ages (the youngest being 10 and the oldest being 28). The RPG is roleplay heavy, which means participation requires creative writing. Other character-based interactions include chat-based battling, sparring, and group quests. ADBZRPG evolves through the addition of monthly patches that improve its functionality and expand its content. Traditionally, ADBZRPG has been updated manually, though there are rumors that the next iteration will be fully automated. Throughout the years, there have been hundreds of active participants, and thousands of casual observers. It has been observed that ADBZRPG is even more engrossing than other DBZ-related media, such as DBZ Budokai.

History

  • Alex's DBZ RPG Version 1.0 was born in June 1999. Its creator, known only as Alex, was discouraged over the shutdown of a legendary RPG entitled Alpha Kogeki 2. With the shutdown of one of the first documented online rpgs, DB Zento, and in an age where online RPGs were not a common thing, Alexs DBZ RPG immediately began to flourish. Soon another Role-playing game, Skyefires DBZ RPG, came to challenge Alex's, and a heated rivalry soon followed. After about six months, Skyefire's was forced to shut down when its owner, Cloud Skyrender, was enveloped in scandal. Many former members defected to Alex's. ADBZRPG went on to run for over two years successfully. At its peak, the rpg had over sixty active members on its roster. The widely popular Chubbs DBZ RPG, which is one of the most active and longest lasting rpgs today, was not yet completely successful. Ultimately, the site shut down to update its system and "start over". This site has been hailed as a founding father of many of the current DBZ RPGs today. Version 1.0 was best known for its long sagas.

  • Alex's DBZ RPG Version 2.0 was updated version that was released a few months after the discontinuance of the original. It offered an expanded universe with inter-planetary location and travelling. 2.0 also used a very mathmatical based battling system similiar to that of a Final Fantasy. This RPG was open for eight months before its closure. The revolution of online RPGs was changed from play-by-email to play-by-post, and ADBZRPG retooled to fit this change.

  • Alex's DBZ RPG Version 3.0 was released in 2004-2005. This version was more heavily reliant upon roleplaying than its predecessor. It was hacked only three months after its opening. This led it to an early closure.

  • Alex's DBZ RPG Version 4.0 was scheduled to open in 2005. It never was completed, however, and was replaced by another project.

  • Alex's DBZ RPG Version 5.0.9 is a Top Ranked RPG that was opened in June of 2006 and is still growing. The fifth installment has fashioned many new features not yet used in many other games. One such addition was an innovative character battling system. This system sought to create more of a Dragonball Z version of online battling by combining chat battling and roleplay battling. Other augmentations include the creation of physical combos, in-depth fighting styles, a henchmen system, and character battle fatigue. The roleplaying tips page has also proved to be very helpful to new writers in making them into better roleplayers.

Plagiarism

There have been many sites that have plagiarized ADBZRPG. To find such sites, the created technique "Mesposo" is used. This technique was an original creation of ADBZRPG, but can still be found on a vast array of other rpgs today. This is testament to the influencial nature ADBZRPG has had on the online roleplaying community. Most often, site members are among those who copy ADBZRPG.
