The X Prize Foundation is a non-profit prize institute based in Santa Monica, California [1].

The mission of the X Prize Foundation is to create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. X PRIZE began its mission by offering the US$10 million Ansari X Prize to encourage private exploration of space.

[edit] Ansari X Prize
The Ansari X Prize was designed to be a catalyst for the private space tourism industry. 26 private companies participated, with the prize being awarded in 2004 to the Tier One project for the successful launch of SpaceShipOne.
[edit] Archon X Prize
The Archon X Prize for genomics, the second X Prize to be awarded by the X Prize Foundation was announced October 4th, 2006. The Archon X Prize in genomics, a joint effort of the X Prize Foundation and the J. Craig Venter Science Foundation, is a $10 million to be awarded to "the first Team that can build a device and use it to sequence 100 human genomes within 10 days or less, with an accuracy of no more than one error in every 10,000 bases sequenced, with sequences accurately covering at least 98% of the genome, and at a recurring cost of no more than $10,000 per genome."

The goal of the Automotive X Prize is to stimulate and showcase true market innovations that:
- Radically reduce petroleum consumption and harmful emissions
- Prove demand for a new generation of super-efficient vehicles that are amazing, desirable, affordable and mainstream
[edit] Wirefly X Prize Cup
The 2006 Wirefly X Prize Cup focused on rocketry and lunar landing technology, offering up $2.5 million in prizes to teams competing in several distinct competitions related to the general theme. The competition was held October 20-21, 2006 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The exposition featured also featured high-powered rocket launches and exhibits intended to boost public interest in aerospace technology.

The WTN X Prizes are a series of prizes proposed by the World Technology Network, to focus on all areas of science and technology. The organization has solicited the public for ideas.
