[edit] Biography

In the early 90's João Vieira had been involved in a few bands, namely Centerfold where he handled vocal dutties. The band genre could be defined as brit pop and never got any record deal. In the mid 90's Vieira goes to London to study graphical design. There he gets involved in several bands and even forms a band under the name Centerfold. Unlike the original Centerfold, this band was mainly a 70's glam rock thing. Like happened with the first incarnation of Centerfold, no success was achieved. Still while in London, together with a friend (Stuart), he founded what was known as the Club Kitten where he DJ'ed under the nickname DJ Kitten. The club soon gets the attention of the british press. In January 2001 Vieira returns to Portugal, and sets a new Club Kitten in the Triplex disco in the city of Porto where he continues to perform under the name DJ Kitten. Like happened in London, Club Kitten is a success and DJ Kitten performs around the country in several parties. Around the same time, after long conversations about music, he and Fernando Sousa (at the time in a band called Stealing Orchestra), decide to start jamming together. After meeting Rui Maia in a bar, X-Wife was complete (the offical date of birth of X-Wife is March 2002). Starting from a set of demos that Vieira recorded in a minidisc while in London, the band initiates their rehearsals. In one of those rehearsals a record label (Nortesul) manager shows up (by indication of a mutual friend) and two months after a record deal is presented to the trio. In 2003 they release the Rockin' Rio EP, which includes the tracks "Rockin' Rio", “Eno” and “We Are” . The track "Rockin' Rio" gets considerable airplay in portuguese radio. On the 10th of January of 2004, Feeding The Machine is released and "Action Plan", despite the fact it wasn't edited as a single, gets a massive airplay on the radio. The album gets quite good reviews from the press, and a tour in clubs and summer festivals follows. On the 10th of April of 2006 they release Side Effects, from which "Ping-Pong" is select as the first single.
