Certainly you may! The purpose of both GFDL and CC is to give people the right to modify and redistribute the work. The only condition is that you must also release it as GFDL and CC. The easiest way to do this (and as a courtesy to me) would be to upload your version to the Commons, and put {{subst:User:Asbestos/GFDL|7 June, 2005}} below the image. After that you can edit the tag to add your name after mine (to credit both creators).
