[edit] About The Station

WVUV-LP is the name of a low-power television station in Pago Pago, American Samoa. The station broadcasts over the air on UHF channel 30, and is a NBC affiliate.

The station was founded on November 4, 2003 as TBN repeater K30HO. It gained its current call sign of WVUV-LP on March 21, 2005 after its acquisition by South Seas Broadcasting.

WVUV is the first privately owned television station and, later, network affiliate, in American Samoa -- government-owned KVZK-4 and KVZK-5 carries programming from ABC, CBS and, before WVUV's acquisition, NBC.

Even though the station is located on a Pacific island, the station's calls begin with "W". Co-owned WVUV-AM was established during WWII and was "grandfathered" with a W-call. The FCC allowed Channel 30 to use a "conforming" call (WVUV-LP). WVUV-AM and WVUV-LP are the only FCC-licensed radio stations in the Pacific with "W" call signs. WVUV also has the distinction of being the furthest west "W" call sign in the United States.

WVUV-AM and WVUV-LP are co-owned with KKHJ-FM in Pago Pago. That station is also known as "93KHJ", a tribute to the legendary Southern California Top 40 station.
