[edit] Interesting facts
- Wurtsboro is notable for a store in the business district called Canal Towne Emporium. The store sells numerous goods, and is a staple in the town. It does not however, sell "Wurtsborians".
- Wurtsboro became popular at the turn of the 19th Century as many New York City first generation German and Russian immigrants, became aware of its charms, and locale so similar to the high mountain villages that these people originated from. The way they came up was by train, and one can still see the remains of these 150 yrs old train tracks in town, and an old yet maintained rail road station.
- Wurtsboro Hills is the site of a hundred or more of 1920s to 1940s era cottages, and is in the hills just past town. The hills are steep and almost ethereal in their peaks and valleys. Nestled in the hills one will find wild blueberries, locally known as huckleberries. The area is still rather wild in itself and coyotes, deers, opossum, rabbits, and chipmunks can be sited. There are hummingbirds too. The Hills is the home of the locally known La Mingotiere French restaurant, a family place for 50 or so years.
