[edit] History
[edit] Carrier Current
The station began in the 1950s when Hope student Richard Brockmeier transmitted a signal from his room through the wiring of the then-new Kollen Hall residence hall. Brockmeier joined Hope's faculty in 1966 teaching computer science and physics until his death in 1993.
[edit] WTAS-AM
Over the air transmitting began in 1957 on an AM frequency with the call letters WTAS (The Anchor Station, paying homage to the college's logo).
[edit] WTHS-FM
The move to FM occurred on September 27, 1985 with the call letters WTHS (The Hope Station). New studios in the DeWitt Center were opened at this time.
In 2006 the station moved to new studios in the newly built Martha Miller Center for Global Communication across the street from the DeWitt Center. The 150 foot tower and antenna remain at the DeWitt Center. A celebratory open house was held January 24, 2007 dedicating the new studios and celebrating 50 years of over-the-air broadcasting.
