Dave Burns and Otis Day voicetrack their shows from WIXX-FM in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Midwest's flagship station. The station had been fully live and local prior to being sold to Midwest during the summer of 2004. Midwest Communications also owns WUSZ-FM, WMFG-FM, KFMG-FM, WMFG-AM and WNMT on the Iron Range. All six stations were sold to Midwest for $5.4 million.

WTBX has long been the #1 station on the Iron Range. This is largely due to the fact that they are they only station fully devoted to modern pop/rock music in Northeastern Minnesota outside of Duluth.

In 2006, WTBX introduced a year-long campaign Where listeners got a special WTBX pen with a number on it, and every week, The station reads off a new number and the listener has to call the station before the end of the week to claim their prize. Prizes included concert tickets, Sports tickets, etc...
