[edit] Purpose

This template is for use on the talk page of every articles, categories, templates, redirects, and disambiguation page that falls within the scope of the Mixed Drinks WikiProject. This template provides visual identification of these pages, automatically categorizes the pages, and provides additional information to visitors.

The scope of the WikiProject includes pages related to mixed drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), true cocktails, beer and wine cocktails, punches, mixers, cocktail garnishes, and related drinkware. The talk page of any article falling within this scope should be tagged with this template.

Articles that do not fall within the scope include articles on specific types or brands of liquors, beers, wines, liqueurs, aperitifs, most soft drinks (unless they are also used as mixers), and articles with only a small reference to mixed drinks. Such articles should not be tagged with this template.

If you are in doubt, go ahead and tag the article. Project participants occasionally browse through the list of articles and remove ones that are outside the Project's scope. We prefer you tag extra articles rather having us miss any.

You may find other WikiProjects have already tagged an article with their own project's tags. This is perfectly fine, and you should not replace their tag with ours. Many articles fall within the scopes of multiple projects, and it just means more Wikipedians are keeping their eyes on the articles and are continually working to improve them.

Remember, tagging an article with the Project's template does not grant or indicate "ownership" of the article or category by the Project. Instead, it alerts other Wikipedians that our Project Participants are interested in the article, and have become essentially custodians for the article. We are pledging to care for and nurture the article. Obviously not all articles are equal in quality or notability, so not all articles will receive the same love and care that other articles do. That is why poor articles may be removed or heavily edited by non-Project Wikipedians. And that is perfectly fine. We appreciate the well-intentioned help they provide.

There are several other templates our WikiProject uses to identify and assess articles in need of improvement. We prefer that rather than nominating or prodding an article for deletion, that people tag substandard articles with {{WPMIXMergeDelete}}. That way, Project Participants will be alerted of the problem articles so we can have the opportunity to improve the article or extract any useful information from the article and add it to a better place. Please see our cleanup guidelines for more advice on how you can help.

[edit] Usage

Anyone may identify the talk pages of appropriate articles, categories, templates, redirects, and disambiguation pages using this template. It should be added only to the talk page, not the main page. You should receive an error message if you place it in the wrong place.

Anywhere you see {{Cocktails Project}} or {{WikiProject Cocktails}}, please replace those obsolete tags with {{WPMIX}}.

Do not subst: this tag. This template is updated every so often, and entirely new versions of the template with new features are sometimes released. Bug-fixes, category changes, and other updates may also be necessary at times. For those reasons, the template needs to remain dynamically generated, never substituted.

Place the following text near the top of the page, usually right after the first paragraph and before the first heading is a good choice. Use your best judgment if other templates already exist.

Template options

Use the following template options:

{{WPMIX
| small =
| class =
| priority =
| categories =
}}

[edit] Attributes

  • No attributes are required.
  • Whenever possible, please try to rate the class and priority.
  • Attribute names ("class", "importance", "categories", etc.) are CaSe SeNsItIvE, so be sure to enter them exactly as indicated. If something unexpected is displayed, this is one of the first things to check.
  • values ("yes", "GA", "rocks2", etc.)

[edit] small

On articles where another WikiProject is already listed, and the Mixed Drinks WikiProject is secondary, use this option. You should also use this option on minor and non-article pages, such as redirects or categories.

To display a very small message box, suppressing most of the default information:

| small = yes

[edit] class

Please refer to our article progress grading scheme for definitions of the various terms that should be used.

Values may be entered in all lower case (stub), lower case with an initial capital (Stub), or all upper case (STUB).

The following values are accepted:

FA (Featured Article) GA (Good Article) A (well written) B (almost there)
Start (decent amount of content, but still very weak) Stub (very short or needs lots of work)
AFD (candidate for AfD) Merge (merge candidate) MergeDel (merge or delete) Merged (merged, now a redirect)
Template (created/used only by WP:MIX) Redirect (for shortcuts, etc.; see also Merged)
Cat (a category) Dab (disambiguation page) NA (classification not applicable)

Example:

| class = Start

[edit] importance

Please refer to our article importance grading scheme for definitions of the various terms that should be used.

Values may be entered in all lower case (low), lower case with an initial capital (Low), or all upper case (LOW).

The following values are accepted:

  • Top (top importance)
  • High (High importance)
  • Mid (Mid importance)
  • Low (Low importance)
  • NA (does not need to be importance rated)

Example:

| priority = Low

[edit] categories

Further information: Categories suppression

This is a somewhat "hidden" feature that allows demonstrating these banner in places where it is not desirable to have the articles auto-magically tagged with mixed drink categories. Any value other than no is ignored and the categories will be generated. If set to no the banner will display as normal, but the categories will be suppressed.

Example:

| categories = no
