This was the first championship to have daily BBC coverage. Only late night highlights were shown starting on April 17.

Ray Reardon became the oldest World Champion at the age of 45 years and 6 months while Fred Davis became the oldest semi-finalist in the championship at the age of 64 and 8 months losing to Perrie Mans 18-16.
