The Embassy World Snooker Championship 1977 took place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield between the April 1977. This was the first time that the Embassy World Championship was held at the Crucible. It has remained there ever since. John Spencer won his third World title beating Cliff Thorburn 25-12 in the final. First timers included Patsy Fagan, John Virgo, Doug Mountjoy and Willie Thorne who had failed to qualify in the final stages in 1976.
