World Security Institute

The World Security Institute (WSI) is an American think tank committed to independent research and journalism on global affairs. WSI was formed in 2005 as an umbrella organization for Center for Defense Information (CDI). [1] The organization is based in Washington, DC.

WSI and CDI are presided over by Bruce G. Blair, formerly with the Brookings Institution between 1987 and 2000, and a 1999 MacArthur Foundation fellow. [2]

CDI's director is Theresa Hitchens. [3]

The Center for Defense Information (CDI) provides expert analysis of the various components of U.S. national security, international security and defense policy.

The International Media division presents facts, information and opinions about the United States to the rest of the world. Johnson's Russia List serves English-language news about the countries of the former Soviet Union. WSI's foreign language information services are: Washington Observer (Chinese), Washington Prism (Persian), Washington ProFile (Russian) and Taqrir Washington (Arabic; note: taqrir means report).

WSI's International Programs has satellite offices in Europe (Brussels, Moscow) and Asia (Beijing).

Azimuth Media produces television programs, documentaries and new media investigating timely issues in international affairs for the general public. Its current project is the television show Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria.

Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting sponsors interational travel for journalists to cover under-reported stories in the american mainstream media
