World Hurdle

The World Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above horses run over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse during the Cheltenham Festival in March. There are twelve hurdles to be jumped in the race.
It was first run under its current conditions in 1972 as the Stayers' Hurdle, changing to the present name in 2005. It is the most prestigious long distance hurdle race in the United Kingdom.
Until 1992 it was run on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival over a distance of 3 miles 1 furlong (5,029 metres) on the Old Course. In 1993 it was moved to the third day and run on the New Course over 3 miles for the first time.
The race was sponsored by Waterford Crystal until 1990 and by Bonusprint from 1991 until 2004. From 2005 onwards it has been run under the title of the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.

- 1992 The winner Nomadic Way had finished second in the 1990 and 1991 Champion Hurdle. He was a rare National Hunt runner for leading flat owner and breeder Robert Sangster.
- 1996 The winner Cyborgo hadn't run since finishing second in the same race a year earlier.
