The World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) is a scientific association of researchers in the fields of survey and communication research founded in 1947 at the Second International Conference on Public Opinion Research.[1] Today the association has over 450 members from research institutes and universities in over 50 countries.[2]
Objectives of WAPOR are
- development and application of scientific methods for survey research
- promotion of the right to conduct and publish scientific survey research in each country of the world
- support of international cooperation and exchange among academic and commercial researchers
WAPOR's annual conference is held in cooperation with the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) in America in even years and in cooperation with ESOMAR in Europe in uneven years.
President of WAPOR is Prof. Michael Traugott (University of Michigan). Vice president (therewith next president) is Thomas Petersen (Allensbach Institute, Germany).
WAPOR sponsors the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, a social science journal published by Oxford Journals.[3]
