The World Affairs Council of Washington, DC, founded in 1980, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to expanding understanding and awareness of global issues. The Council hosts events for citizens in the Washington, DC metro area aimed at informing and educating the public about contemporary international affairs.

The Council is an affiliate of the Foreign Policy Association in New York and is part of a national network of 86 World Affairs Councils representing 500,000 members throughout the United States.

The Council's activities are funded through membership dues and corporate, foundation and individual donations.

The Council's international education programs include student leadership forums, an overseas study tour, and the intensive Summer Institute on International Affairs for K-12 educators.

The World Affairs Council of Washington, DC offers a variety of programs on current international issues, including:

Most Council events are open to members and the general public. The Council encourages open and candid discussion. Speakers include senior U.S. officials, Congressional leaders, academics, foreign policy experts, journalists, authors, foreign leaders and others.
