Working (TV series)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Working was a 1997-1999 NBC situation comedy praised by fans in its first season, but lost momentum after a massive cast change for the second season. It starred Fred Savage (The Wonder Years) as an office employee.

Working featured surreal sequences (akin to Scrubs) and office craziness.

Other employees included Jimmy (Dana Gould), Hal the under-respected secretary, the perky Abby Cosgrove (Arden Myrin), and Steve Hytner as the acerbic DeLaney.

[edit] Second season

The second season had a large cast change, as the characters of Jimmy and Hal were written out. Fans were disappointed as this affected the chemistry of the office. This season also introduced Debi Mazar to the cast, which also hurt the show's popularity.

The show was uncerimoniously canceled shortly thereafter.

It is often unfavourably compared to The Office, which would debut in 2005 on the same network.

[edit] Theme song

The show used a cover of the song "Working in a Coal Mine" performed by Devo, set over top of scenes of work, including marching workers from the film Metropolis and frantic work scenes from Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
