[edit] History
Founded by Alfredo Ramírez de Arellano y Bártoli in 1955, WORA-TV was the first television station in Puerto Rico's west coast. The station received its callsign after then sister station WORA (AM). During it's infant years, the station produced its own programming, but later on changed its format to infomercials (possibly due to the lack of interest from local businesses to advertise on TV).
In 1979, WORA-TV entered into an affiliation agreement with San Juan-based WAPA-TV, ending it's run as a totally independent station. After that point, most TV stations on the island's western coast followed suit. By joining with economically stronger stations from the San Juan market, market divisions on the island ended.
In 1985, WORA-TV changed its affiliation agreement to WKAQ-TV, and on January 1, 1995 at exactly 12:00 AM, it started a new affiliation agreement with WLII.
[edit] Telecinco en Las Noticias
WORA-TV has a small news division called Telecinco en Las Noticias which broadcasts two 15-20 minute segments over WLII's "Las Noticias Univision" news broadcasts. The segments are around concentrate on events happening in and around Mayaguez and Puerto Rico's west coast.
