[edit] Documentation

Workpages are often created as temporary places to store stuff that may eventually become part of an article or other page. These are generally created as subpages of the corresponding Talk: page to avoid any possibility that a casual reader may stumble upon them. {{workpage}} goes further, prominently tagging the workpage as a workpage. This also categorizes to Category:Workpages.

[edit] Usage

{{Workpage}}

{{Workpage|name}}

The single, positional parameter is the name of a page into which the material of the workpage may or may not someday be incorporated. Do not link to an article in this fashion. This parameter is optional and defaults to "an article".

Code Result
{{Workpage}}

  • Doc. Note:
    • Important to use subpages in Talk namespace -- see guideline above
    • Linking to destination article will create a backlink. Some readers may get sucked into the workpage through "What links here" while others, one supposes, might find their way back to articlespace. I say the cost outweighs the very slim benefit. The engine already creates automatically a link to the root of the subpage hierarchy; editors don't need the convenience.
