Pretty disappointing article, doubt it could be fixed short of rewriting it from scratch. No parallels are drawn between the story and historical events in "our timeline", which Turtledove makes all too clear and which are one of the best pleasures in reading alternate history - going from memory:

  • early deployment of mobile V-2 launch sites
  • early deployment of Me-262
  • early deployment of bazooka
  • use of anti-tank dogs against alien tanks
  • Mussolini is similarly arrested and detained, and similarly Otto Skorzeny frees him in a daring raid
  • forget that, how about no mention of Otto Skorzeny at all
  • the two starships weren't taken out by just any artillery unit - they had the honor of being shelled by Dora

Also no mention that, to aliens, seas and ships are... alien concepts, and how this works against them. Or that they detain human prisoners as guinea pigs to study human behavior, mating habits and this other alien concept of "family". No mention of the alien pilot held prisoner by the Japanese and brutally interrogated? --KJK::Hyperion 02:20, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
