Woody Davis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Woody Davis has been coaching high school sports for 46 years. The first three years of his career began in Washington State and then migrated east to Long Beach, New York. Davis, legendary swimming and diving coach at Long Beach High School, has been coaching the boys varsity swimming and diving team for the past 43 years. For 43 years, Davis has coached more winning swim meets than any other coach in the Public High School Swim Association (PHSSA) of the USA. He is a treasure to the youth of Long Beach and has become synonymous with the Long Beach Boys Swim Team. The 500th victory, achieved on December 18, 2006, was a monumental feat in coaching, and an even more impressive feat in swimming, and Davis accomplished it with less than 100 losses. He is the first (and only) coach to achieve 500 victories. [1] Woody has coached soccer, basketball, and gymnastics along with swimming and diving but has retired to only the swimming and diving team.
