[edit] Problems with this image?
Two issues.
- Someone put a {{badJPEG}} tag on this image. However, I don't see any problem with the image that would seem to justify this tag. The image has a few stray dots (it's a scanned copy of photocopies of original documents), but I don't see any signs of compression artifacts. My understanding is that JPEG's are not inherently evil on Wikipedia, but I'm wondering if the {{badJPEG}} tag was added solely because this is a JPEG. Comments from anyone?
- I uploaded a new copy of the JPEG (replacing the original), with the stray dots and some other extraneous stuff removed, but the new copy doesn't seem to have been stored properly. I see the new image if I look at the high-resolution version, but the medium-sized copy (on the image page) and the small copy (on the Wong Kim Ark page) appear unchanged. Did I do something wrong?

- It looks OK this morning. I guess the thumbnails are regenerated eventually — just not immediately — so everything would have been OK if I had just been a little more patient?
- I'm still wondering if there is a real need or desire to replace this image with a non-JPEG. I would still welcome comments on this suggestion. If no one says anything in the next few days, I'll assume there is not in fact any consensus for the {{badJPEG}} tag and I'll remove the tag.

- I've replaced this image with a PNG. I was able to clean up the background in GIMP, then save it as a PNG, and the new file is slightly smaller than the original JPEG. I had to work from the JPEG because I hadn't saved any non-JPEG copies of my scans and it was not feasible to go back to the photocopies and re-scan / re-crop everything from scratch. Hopefully this will be acceptable to everyone now. Richwales 02:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
