[edit] History
women in docs are a popular, and currently independent, folk-crossover-country alternative act based in Brisbane, Australia. They have been compared to the Indigo Girls (Canada) and The Waifs (Australia).
With a reputation for stirring and humourous live performances and a vigorous touring schedule, women in docs have spent years building a fiercely loyal following throughout Australia, as well as touring internationally to win over audiences throughout North America, Europe, NewZealand and China.
women in docs have accrued an impressive array of career benchmarks. They’ve played major festivals throughout the world (including SXSW in Austin, Texas and Folk Alliance in San Diego, both in 2004). They enjoy ongoing airplay throughout Australia, with extensive airplay on college radio in America and Canada, as well as airplay in Shanghai and Germany. They have sold nearly 20,000 CDs independently. Recent releases have spent time in the Top 10 of the Australian Independent Records Charts and Top 40 of the Americana Folk Charts. The band regularly play to packed houses, touching the lives of people from a broad cross-section of ages and cultural backgrounds.
women in docs have recently successfully showcased at 2006's Folk Alliance Conference in Austin, Texas as well as at esteemed conference, Canadian Music Week. With such successful showcases, and their calendar booked to brimming for North America's Summer, women in docs returned to the States and Canada in June / July 2006, released their record "Under a Different Sky" (Baria / IDN) and captured the hearts of festivals lovers from Vancouver, to California to Pennsylvania.

[edit] women in docs
The women in docs' self-titled debut release enjoyed modest success when it was released in 1999, with the leading single Tin Roof gaining airplay and inclusion on an ABC Music compilation CD. The EP also included The Travelling Song, For Jenny, I Don't Understand, One Day Soon and Prometheus.
[edit] www.womenindocs.com
The curiously titled second EP was released in 2000 and named www.womenindocs.com. Its lead tracks Sweet Lorenzo and Superman continue to be crowd favourites at live performances.
[edit] Under a Different Sky
In 2002, the women in docs released their first full-length album Under a Different Sky which included catchy, melodic releases including Crown St and Supermarket.
[edit] Times Like These
In 2004, the women in docs released their third EP Times Like These. This recording marked a maturing in their lyrics and was heavily inspired by their time travelling through the United States and Europe.
[edit] Red Wine and Postcards
The second full-length album Red Wine and Postcards was released in mid-2006 and proved popular amongst the docs' growing, and loyal, fanbase. The album marked a departure from the band's usual indulgence in pop culture references and irresistible melodies. Rather, the album's lyrics are dominated by well-articulated emotion and soaring harmonies. Produced by Darren Middleton (Powderfinger, Drag).
