Women and children is a phrase used often by Muslims. It is an appeal to emotion to invoke pity for a group that especially in Muslim societies that are not accorded equal legal rights. It is more prevalent in societies where women aren't active in the labor force especially the military and higher education.

Many jihadist terrorists are frequently accused of slaughtering "women and children". The jihadists in turn make the same charge against the governments they oppose. Nonetheless, more often than not, the close examination of the incidents reveal that men were the ones who lost their their lives disproportionately. For example, the large majority of the victims of the 1988 massacre of Iranian prisoners or the Srebrenica massacre[1] were male.
