Women against war

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Women Against War (WAW) is a grassroots organization of women opposed to war in Iraq. Formed in October 2002 in Albany, NY, WAW is a decentralized network of females working to end the war. Projects have included a five month Fast for Peace, civil disobedience, a travelling Peace Tent and demonstrations at Crossgates Mall after a man was arrested for wearing a Peace on Earth t-shirt in 2003.

At one time WAW was an international network of women connected through an online newsletter called Flower in the Gun. Flower was discontinued in 2005 and the network became focused locally. Also in 2005 WAW became an affiliate of Code Pink. Currently, WAW is working on spreading information on the financial costs of war in our communities.

An earlier organization of the same name was founded by Mary Phelps Jacob during the 1960s.[1]
