[edit] Premise

Latino Review put up a script review of David Benioff's draft, but it was taken down after requests by Fox. The script was about Wolverine's past before Weapon X and it featured Sabretooth and Stryker as main villains. The draft included X-Men characters John Wraith, the Blob, and Forearm as Weapon X operatives. It also featured Silver Fox and Beak as supporting characters. They gave the script a B+ grade. How much of this script will show up in the final draft is still unknown.[1]

[edit] Pre-production

David Benioff was hired to pen the screenplay for Wolverine in 2004.[2] Hugh Jackman worked with Benioff constantly on the script, becoming fully involved as producer as well as star.[3] As of September 1, 2006, Benioff was working on the third draft of the screenplay for the film.[4] The script was finished as of October 15, 2006, and Jackman indicates there will be a year before shooting. He has denied rumours that it will be based on Chris Claremont's and Frank Miller's Wolverine limited series. He had hoped to hire a director in November 2006.[5] He wishes to shoot 3-4 months, possibly in Australia, for an early 2008 release.[6] He doesn't see the need for an R rating.[7]

Brett Ratner is negotiating with the studio to take the helm of Wolverine after impressing the producers with his direction of X-Men: The Last Stand.[8] Possible returning actors include Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut,[8] Tyler Mane as Sabretooth[9][10] and Brian Cox, who played William Stryker in X2. When the presenter Jonathan Ross asked him about Wolverine, Cox replied, "it's set seventeen years ago, which is fine for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine doesn't age but for me, I'm thinking they could do what they did with Patrick and Ian for the start of the third one. I know my character is in it, they've asked me to be in it but that was a while ago now, it's completely stalled so no start date as yet."[11]
