Woleai

Woleai Atoll (7°22′N 143°54′E.) is a cluster of 22 islets located in Micronesia's Yap group, in the Caroline Islands. The current population is approximately 800. During most of World War II, the atoll was used as an airstrip by Japanese forces.

Woleai is peculiar culturally insofar as that a unique syllabic or rebus script was discovered by John Macmillan Brown to be in use among some speakers of the Woleaian language in 1913.
