WNXT (AM)

WNXT is an AM radio station in Portsmouth, Ohio, USA broadcasting at 1260 kHz with a sports/talk format. WNXT went on air in 1950. The story began when the original onwer of WSAZ radio left to start a radio station in Portsmouth after WSAZ as a radio station became defunct. The radio station started as a country music radio station with local personality Zecke Mullins who continues to do a morning radio show on a limited basis today. The station is owned by Hometown Broadcasting.

Today much of WNXT is dominated by ESPN Radio and local sports. The station dumped much of its country music in 2004 for ESPN Radio. The station has a major variety of sports since its the only radio station in county to have converage of sports. Roger Greg and Jim Simith are some of the sports personallities. During the fall and winter, Jim Simith does the local sports show the Saturday Morning Sportsline talking to local coach via telephone line. Jim Simith retired from WNXT in April 2005 to spend more time with his family.
