WLR FM is an Independent Local Radio station, licensed since 1989 by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, broadcasting to Waterford City and County Waterford. As well as the official franchise area, the station also enjoys a considerable listenership in South County Kilkenny. It has two studios, one in Dungarvan,County Waterford and its main purpose built studio complex (shared with regional youth station Beat 102-103) in Waterford City. The present Waterford City studio, the 'Broadcast Centre' at Ardkeen opened in 2003, replacing WLR's previous studio at Georges Street in downtown Waterford City. WLR-FM broadcasts on three frequencies: 95.1MHz for most of the county (and a low-power transmitter also on 95.1MHz in downtown Waterford city), 97.5MHz for Waterford city and much of East Waterford, and a low-power transmitter on 94.8MHz to cover the East Waterford coast.
